Vacation jobs

Artikel

Only students or pupils from foreign universities and colleges can take up a vacation job.

The focus of a vacation job is not on education and training, but usually on the opportunity to earn money. Vacation jobs are therefore also permitted if there is no connection to the field of study.

The employment must either take place during ones respective vacation or lecture-free time or the person concerned must be expressly released from teaching/lectures. The latter will probably only occur if there is a certain factual connection between the professional training and the type of vacation job.

The vacation job must not exceed 90 days in twelve months* and must have been arranged by the Federal Employment Agency. The only acceptable proof is a placement certificate from the Federal Employment Agency. Please find further information in this leaflet of the Federal Employment Agency.

Third-country nationals with a valid Latvian residence permit do not need a visa for Germany to take up a vacation job, but can do this after receiving the placement certificate. However, please note that if you travel to Germany several times without a visa, these travels may not exceed 90 days within a period of 180 days.

*For example: In 2023 you had a vacation job from June 1st to July 31st, 2023 (61 days). Therefore, before July 31, 2024, you may only take up a vacation job for another 29 days. After August 1st, 2024, the 90 days period will start again.
